Travel Tuesday- Hopewell Rocks

It's practically a law that if you have guests visiting New Brunswick during the warm weather months you must take them to see Hopewell Rocks.  Having the highest, most extreme tides in the world is the New Brunswick claim to fame.  So, while the In-Laws were visiting a month ago off to Hopewell Rocks we went.

Some of you may remember from my earlier post on Funday National Park that we stayed in Alma for two nights.  This meant we were able to access Hopewell relatively easy though we stopped several times on the way to bird watch and to see Cape Enrage.  We were therefore very pleased to arrive at Hopewell Rocks and find that the bathrooms were very nice and very clean.  There was also a very tempting gift shop, lovely display area and a cafe with lots of seating.  The best way to do Hopewell is to arrive at high tide and walk along the trails at the top so that it was we did.  Sadie made a friend who took our photo and tried to take Sadie home with her.

Once you've had a chance to look around it's a good idea to wander off and do something else.  There is a playground and places to eat on the property but, there is also a restaurant by the turn off.  We tried it out and it served good, Maritime type foods (lobster rolls, seafood chowder, hot turkey sandwiches) and had another tempting gift shop.  Also this:

Then we headed off to Hillsborough to see the train museum and walk the wet land trails.  We also discovered they have useful things like gas stations, banks and cafes! An other idea for filling a couple of hours and having something to eat is Broadleaf Ranch

Anyway, whatever you do for a couple of hours it's worth then heading back for low tide.  Choose clothing and footwear carefully!  There are hoses at the top so the barefoot option might actually be smarter than it looked at first.
