Travel Tuesday- Dublin

October 2007 we took a three day whirlwind trip to Dublin. North Americans may not be aware but the primary reason that Brits take whirlwind trips to Dublin is for Stag or Hen Dos (bachelor and bachelorette parties).  This is because of the Temple Bar area of Dublin which is basically a temple to bars.  Fairly certain in-laws spent every evening in that same area on their recent trip.  I'm sure the live music was nearly as much of a draw as the pints!

Dublin is also the birthplace of Guinness and Jameson Whiskey as well as Oscar Wilde and Jonathan Swift.  As we were young and broke (as opposed to now being older and broke) I was keen to get the absolute most value for money out of our trip.  We stayed at a hotel just outside of the city centre and got two day Dublin Passes (which from the looks of things have gone up in price since then).  Our passes allowed us to take the bus from the airport to our hotel and back as well as into town.  They also included the hop-on-hop-off bus experience and entrance to just about everything.  This meant that we didn't have to stand outside of something trying to decide if it was worth the money; already paid for means you'd better see it!

What a great city!  And in case you're not convinced, how can you go wrong in a place that has this:
