Fluffball Festival

Today is a big day in our household.  Well, it's not really because the fluffballs don't understand dates.  However, today is Spock and Sadie's birthday.  Today Sadie is 4 and Spock is 1.  We know for certain that today is Sadie's birthday but Spock, having been found as a tiny pitiful thing on the street is a little less accurate.  Based on the age given to us by the vet it made sense for them to share a birthday since they are best buds.

I can't believe it's been nearly two years that we've had Sadie and that Spock is now such a grown up boy.

For those of you who don't know, Spock arrived at our house as a foster at the end of last Summer. He was a scrawny little thing with an upper respiratory infection and eye infection.  He was with us so we could give him his meds regularly and feed him up.  Kittens don't do well at shelters as they pick up anything at all.  Spock was intended to go to a foster fair in September.

We let him out into general population so we'd be able to let people know how he responded (being a kitten we figured no problem) to other animals.  Sadie was used to Trilly-cat being for looking at only so she looked pretty shocked to find a kitten climbing up her leg, hanging from her ear and sitting on her head.
Sadie basically decided we were keeping her little buddy.

These days the two share Sadie's dog beds and lay in sun patches together. When Spock gets bored he gets Sadie to chase him (this often ends with something tipping over... sigh). But best of all is when Spock gets purring. He'll come up and give us head bumps but he just has too many purrs and only Sadie will do. If Sadie's standing then he'll go up on his back paws to head bump with her. If she doesn't lay down he puts his paws around her neck and pulls.

We promised the cats would be indoor cats when we adopted them.  This is common in Canada where the elements, wild animals (we've had foxes and coyotes in our area never mind HUGE raccoons) as well as the usual cars all pose dangers to them. Plus I'd freak out if they weren't in the house when I left for work.  Anyway, Spock sat at the door and cried so pitifully when Sadie went outside without him (he seriously couldn't care less if I'm outside as long as he has Sadie) that we had to get him a harness so he could go out too.  They lay the same way and both chase sticks.  He's more interested in stalking bugs than she is though.

That's the cutest story ever! I can understand how excited Sadie must have been to finally have a cat she can play with. The picture with the kitten all snuggled up on Sadie's fluffy tail is adorable. No wonder you didn't give the cat up for adoption!
