Hold Over

Husband and I went away between Christmas and New Year's.  Due to an approaching snow storm we decided to leave a day early, taking off on Boxing Day.  I was adamant that I wanted the Christmas stuff cleared away so that I didn't arrive home on January 1st facing taking it all down before my return to work.

I was so wound about it that Husband actually helped me take the tree down (and move a piano but that's another story) on Christmas Day after we opened our presents but before we headed off to do dinner with my family.  We had fully cleaned up from Christmas by Boxing Day morning.  Except for one thing.  I've left out one little reminder of the holidays.

This little sleigh held flowers that I received last Christmas.  Right now it seems perfect for holding some of our Christmas cards, acting as a little reminder that people love us!

Boxing Up

Happy Boxing Day Everyone.

We have in fact boxed up our Christmas already.  Husband has been very indulgent of my craziness and actually helped me take down the Christmas tree yesterday afternoon before we headed off on an hour long drive to have Christmas dinner with my extended family.  I'm not normally quite so compulsive about packing away the decorations but we're headed off on a road trip and I didn't want it all waiting for me when I got back.  We're incredibly lucky to have friends who are not only willing but actually happy to move in with our fluffballs while we go away for a few days.

We had a wonderful Christmas.  Husband was naughty and went way over board while supporting local businesses like crazy.  Here's a little bit of our Christmas.  I'm off to see Les Mis (so excited!!) before we hit the road.

Peace on Earth

Human beings seem to have such a hard time living peacefully with each other.  Peace on earth doesn't seem likely this year.  But in less than 12 weeks these two have gone from fear and distrust and anger to this.

With three cats and a golden retriever (Dobby's not the world's biggest house cat; Sadie is the world's tiniest golden.  She's only 45 pounds) our house isn't always peaceful but every time we've added someone new we've discovered facets of the rest that had never come out before. Individuals are better in community than they are off fending for themselves. Life is also generally better with a bit of fluff in it.

Tiny's Ties

If you're new to the blog you may not have heard of my fascination with a cat named Tiny. Last Winter folks at the Fredericton SPCA found a box on their doorstep in the morning. They thought it contained office supplies until it started meowing.  Inside the box they found two cats, one was Tiny who weighed over 30 pounds at the time.

Tiny now lives with a foster Mom and foster cat and at his last Tuesday weigh in was under 18 pounds.  Tiny is always sporting snazzy ties for his weigh ins and public appearances and now sells Tiny's Ties to raise funds for his friends in the shelter. I got our boys Christmas Ties both because they'd look adorable and because we like to support those kitties who haven't been lucky enough to find homes yet.

Aren't they handsome? Spock is pretty easy going so after staring at it for awhile he posed for photos for me... then proceeded to chew on it a bit.

Dobby had a bit of a fit when he first got his tie on.  He kept trying to back out of it.  Was absolutely hilarious... poor boy.  After distraction with some treats he kind of forgot it was there and let me get some photos.

That nose is still on the mend. He took awhile to learn the lessons Trilly was teaching him
Tinys Ties can be shipped all over the place if you think your feline friend would look as adorable as ours.

Festive Fluffs

I know I showed our tree last week when I was so proud of myself for getting all of the lights to turn on but I thought I'd share a few more photos of our Christmas decorations.  The cats are particularly taken with the tree though they've been fairly good about staying out of it.

Can you spot the third kitty?

Trilly lays there most evenings now.

Winter Wear

I've been wanting cherry red jeans for quite awhile now and last week I finally got them! Was thrilled to also get this cozy sweater perfect for the holidays. So this is what I wore to take Sadie to see Santa.  The outfit was a success... the seeing Santa was a bit rocky (see yesterday's post for details).

I just got my nails redone and I think they're perfect with this outfit.  You can slightly see the sparkle on the light grey but in person it reminds me of a snow flake.

Seeing Santa

So taking Sadie to see Santa didn't go so smoothly.  Santa was at the local pet store posing for photos as a fundraiser for our local shelter (who helped take care of all three of our kitties and so has a special place in our hearts).  Sadie donned her red velvet jacket and off we went to see Santa.

She was a bit excited when we got to the store and she started meeting other dogs and children and such but she settled down and listened better than I expected.  She was on high alert but loved the attention and we were all ready to go meet Santa.

I put her up on the bench next to Santa and went to stand behind the photographer as instructed and in 15 seconds she had flown up into the air totally freaked out and hidden behind us.  We gave her a minute to patter paw around the room and say hello to the photographer and the woman at the computer and she loved that.  I called her up to sit next to me on the bench and she loved that.  Santa sat next to her on the other side and she climbed over me as fast as possible.  Sigh.

At home she poses for the camera for me all the time but she would not look at the camera and huddled as close to me as possible.  The thing is.  In the photo we're so distracted dealing with Sadie and trying to set a good example that it looks like we're the problem.

This is the funniest thing ever.

The photographer calls this our Griswald Family Christmas photo.  Problem is the "best" one isn't exactly award winning either!

Heartbreak Holiday

Thursday evening I stopped by the Heartbreak Boutique on Princess St in Saint John which is owned by my lovely friend Pamela.  It's adorable and skull filled and it works.  They were having their Wishlist Christmas Party and I found a few things to put on my wishlist (Scottie dog dress... I think so! Cupcake socks... definitely! Cardigan with bows AND cherries... Need it!).  I was also lucky enough to win a wallet so I'll be stopping by again soon.

How could you not want a skirt with tapes on it? AND a skirt with cherries all over it.  I have a friend who really needs to have a baby so that I can buy this:
