It's a long weekend here in Canada (I do miss the phrase Bank Holiday... but like that we bother to give ours names and things to celebrate) to celebrate Queen Victoria who gave Canada (some degree of) independence. Canadians don't go around having revolutions... we form committees. It's the Canadian way. Then we apologize for doing anything at all that might in any way have bothered anyone else... and feel smug about it.
Canadian children of the 80s learned all of our history from Canadian Heritage Minutes. These were one minute commercials on television and they are iconic here (tell a Canadian you smell burnt toast and make their day).
Prince Charles and Camilla (Duchess of Cornwall right?... didn't bother googling that) are in town today for the celebrations as part of the Diamond Jubilee trips to various parts of the Commonwealth. I voted for Harry but it seems he was more tempted by places like Jamaica. Don't blame him really.
